Product Description

The new Oceanic Datamask HUD is the sign of the future of diving: true hands-free diving with everything you need to know right in front of your eyes.

The original research that led to DataMask was conducted in order to produce a mask for the Special Forces Divers, who needed a mask with extended capability, for diving in extreme conditions. The DATAMASK has a very small LCD (liquid crystal display) panel, created by Digital Optic System. It also has a microprocessor, depth transducer and a wireless tank pressure receiver.

The battery is user-replaceable. The LCD permits the diver to keep eyes centered on the dive, while showing all the important dive data: current depth, passed dive time, tank pressure, and remaining dive time. The miniature screen provides a clear, highly magnified image, which is easy to see regardless of dive conditions and the eyesight of the diver. Oceanic is announcing the version of the DataMask with optical adjustment for people with poor eyesight.

Features

• Air Integrated Wireless Technology with the Air Time Remaining compression Algorithm
• Sound Alarms with diver’s Acknowledgment
• Adjustable backlight strength can be set before the dive or underwater, permitting the diver to adapt the display to make it more readable, but not distracting
• Advanced User Options and Settings
• User- Replaceable Batteries
• OceanLog® Computer Download and Upload of diver’s settings Software
• The USB Cable is included

What customers say

Although the DataMask has not been on the market long, the reviews are already coming in and the customers are all very enthusiastic with the innovations. The Mask has proven to be an excellent tool for diving in bad visibility and for monitoring an inexperienced buddy. The data and all important information is easy to read. Divers find mask fairly easy to operate. One complaint was that the Mask is pretty heavy and bulky. One diver had problems equalizing because of the added weight.

General conclusion is that it takes a bit of time not to have to look down at the wrist or console. The mask has only two buttons, so the operation requires a good study of the guidebook. But, the Mask appears to be intuitively designed and it is not difficult to master.

The divers find that the Oceanic Datamask does not distract from the diving since the display is at the lower right side of the peripheral vision. The LCD limits the regular mask field view, but the divers did not find it a downside.

cool tool

I just made a few dives with the new toy and I am quite happy with it. I find it excellent for diving in bad visibility especially if you have someone with you you want to keep an eye on. The display is easy to read, all relevant information available and quite simple to operate. Disadvantage: The mask is heavy and a bit bulky. Underwater I found it difficult to perform equalization as it is hard to get to the nose with thick dry suit gloves.

Summary: Cool tool for diving in bad visdibility and for teaching when you have to keep your eyes on your students. But I will stick to my wrist computer for holiday diving in clear, warm water.
