Top 5 Dive Computers
There are many dive computers that could get into a top 5 list but here we will cover a few of the most popular scuba diving computers available.
Mares Nemo Sport
Mares NEMO is the only dive watch/dive computer with four dive modes: Nitrox, Air, Free Dive and Bottom Time. The case and mechanical components are Swiss-made, guaranteeing total reliability and precision. The Mares Nemo is equipped with the RGBM Mares-Wienke Algorithm. An ascent rate reading and Deep Stops (stops for greater depths’ decompression) ensure increased safety. This dive computer is simple to use and intuitive to learn. Access to all functions is simple and easy, both as a watch and as a computer.
Standard dive functions are: decompression stop times, total time to surface, maximum depth, dive time safety stop, remaining time at the current depth, water temperature, ascent rate in meters per minute or feet per minute, ascent rate (as a percentage of the maximum permitted speed), dive time in minutes and seconds (in bottom time mode) and value for CNS O2 for Nitrox dives. Watch menu has alarm clock and dual time zones. Like all MARES computers, the glass display is mineral, to resist scratching. It is shockproof and non-reflective. Mares Nemo Sport dive computer uses user-replaceable standard batteries, available anywhere.
Suunto D9
The D9 Suunto is the first dive computer to combine a wireless tank data reception and digital compass. The compass shows general direction with a compass rose, and the exact bearing with a numerical display. D9's optional wireless transmitter allows the diver to monitor tank pressure and air consumption data as well as depth and time.
The D9 can be used with three different gas mixes, from 21 to 100% oxygen, switchable during the dive. Decompression stops are calculated based on the Suunto’s RGBM Deep Stop model. The maximum depth is set at 200m [660ft]. The computer memory saves in the dive logbook normal dive data, plus a graphical dive profile with tank pressure and real time water temperature. The Suunto D9 dive computer has titanium housing with a titanium strap. It includes a PC interface and the Suunto Dive Manager 2 software and easy to use function buttons.
Mares Puck
The new Puck wrist computer is a fully functional RGBM, air/nitrox dive computer, with big numbers that are very easy to read, and a backlight for night dives. A single button access to all menu options makes it very easy to use. Its adjustable conservative algorithm makes is very suitable for the beginner divers. The dive log stores up to 38 hours or 50 dives.
Standard Mares Puck dive computer features included: it is Nitrox Programmable (21-50%) , has ascent rate indicator, diver-replaceable batteries, nitrogen bar graph, Air/Nitrox/Bottom timer modes, and temperature display. It is automatic altitude adjustable. Maximum depth is 492 feet. Its safety alarms/features include accent rate, altitude, gas mixture. It has large screen with powerful backlight.
Uwatec Aladin Prime
Aladin Prime uses exclusive UWATEC Adaptive Algorithm (ZH-L8 ADT), which constantly adjusts the decompression plan during the dive, to adapt to risk factors like cold water, fast ascents or the potential for formation of micro bubbles. Aladin’s nitrox compatibility is 21-50 percent in 1 percent increments. Its PPO2 is adjustable between 1.2 and 1.6 Bar. The Aladin’s safety stop timer is user activated between 1 and 5 minutes.
In dive mode, it is easy to toggle between maximum depth, temperature, time, and backlight. The Uwatec Aladin Prime dive computer is simple enough to use, making it suitable as a first dive computer. The battery is user-replaceable. Memory can hold 25 Hours of Profile Storage at 4-second sampling rate. Data can be transferred to the PC or Mac wireless, using infrared technology.
Oceanic Veo 100
The Oceanic VEO 100 Computer is easy to use and all the information is accessible at a glance by pressing one button only. It has large graphics, bar graphs, and intuitive icons. The Veo is water-activated and its memory holds 12 dives. It has diver-replaceable batteries with memory allowing battery change between the dives. The Oceanic Veo is depth rated for 330 feet, and it adjusts automatically for altitude and fresh or salt water.
It has three main dive mode displays available, air and Nitrox modes and is Nitrox Programmable from 21 to 50 percent. Nitrox settings are very easy to adjust. The Oceanic Veo 100 wrist computer display shows time remaining with no decompression, maximum depth, current depth, variable ascent rate, Nitrogen loading, low battery, flashing safety stop icon, time of day, Nitrogen countdown and time to fly.
